The role of a CDU
A coolant distribution unit circulates coolant to the racks and transfers the heat it collects into the facility water system.
It keeps the two loops separate, so the fluid serving sensitive IT equipment can be controlled independently.
What is inside
Pumps, a heat exchanger, filtration, valves, sensors and a controller. Larger installations add redundancy at component or unit level.
In-row or centralised
In-row units sit close to the racks they serve. Centralised units serve larger zones from a plant area. The choice depends on space, pipework and how the site will be maintained.
Specifying one
Capacity, redundancy, controls integration and service access are defined around the project — not chosen from a brochure.
